Only the best will tempt Gignac

Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac says he turned down a move to Everton in January because the club do not match his ambitions.

Gignac, 26, claims to be holding out in the hope of joining one of the English Premier League s bigger clubs.

The former Toulouse man has found first-team opportunities at the Stade Velodrome limited this season, having made just one Ligue 1 start, and eight substitute appearances, to date.

Despite being out of favour with Didier Deschamps, he rejected a chance to join Everton, believing such a move would represent a step down from Marseille.

Everton is a top club in England but for me Marseille is bigger and more attractive, Gignac told Sky Sports.

I want to play one day abroad but at a bigger club like the Manchester United s of this world.

A 16-cap France international, Gignac was reportedly also the subject of interest from Fulham, Brest, Lorient and Nice.

But he is apparently confident of forcing his way back into contention with the 2009/10 Ligue 1 champions.

I do want to make a name for myself at Marseille, Gignac said.

I love the club.
